The Recovery Process

How do I get started on this process?

A phone call, e-mail or fax to VI will get the process started. Once we receive the signed agreement from the rightful owner, the recovery process is underway.  One of our account managers will forward a claim package itemizing the documentation needed by the Holder of your assets to substantiate the claim.

How much will this cost me? 

As our basic agreement explains, there is absolutely no risk or up front cost to the rightful owner. If no recovery is made due to an extenuating circumstance, VI receives absolutely nothing and absorbs the cost of the efforts made to locate the rightful owner. The rightful owner is never asked to pay anything in advance, nor is he or she ever requested to bear any of the expense of extensive research and costly legal fees that VI undertakes. VI is compensated only after a claim is paid at a pre-determined and mutually agreed upon fee.

How long does the asset recovery process take?

That can vary depending on the type and complexity of your claim or the entity holding the assets. The claims process can take between three to eighteen months to complete once the claim is filed, but there are cases that take several years. After receiving all the necessary paperwork, your account manager will be able to provide a more accurate timeline based on your particular claim.

We will do everything possible to expedite your claim, but in many cases there are no laws mandating when Holders must release the assets, so the Holder dictates the length of your wait. Remember, we operate on a contingency-fee basis and require no payment until your assets are returned, so it is in our best interest to move as quickly as possible.
